My "coming of age" in the automotive world coincided with
the introduction of the first fiberglass bodied dune buggies; the Myers Manx and the
Empi Imp. I always wanted to build one. Over the years, more and more versions of
that original dune buggy formula have evolved. While I'm not really into the
Shelby Cobra replicas, I'd love to build a Speedster replica. |

One of the premiere auto races in the world held in one of the most beautiful and
intriguing locations on earth. Here in one place combines speed, power, beauty,
history, and unimaginable wealth.
I almost made this one. I was in Monacco the day after the F1 race in 2006. Talk
about a day late and a few million dollars short! If you click on the
Trip Photos link, then follow the "France 2006" link, you'll see pictures
of Monacco and notice that the grandstands are being disassembled.

I assume that there is a special kind of person that races on the salt flats.
I imagine them to be loners; recluses who build secrect creations in their dark
garages, dragging them out once a year to attempt that record run once again.

I have as much fun working on cars as I do driving them. Spending a day
in a professional race shop would give me so many ideas about how to set
up a shop, do certain tasks, etc.
.
I was able to spend two days working/hanging out/getting in the way at
Kirk Racing. I was there to work with good friend and Grassroots Motorsports magazine
Technical Editor Per Schroeder and Kirk Racing's owner Mark Stewart as we
built a roll cage for Per's Spec E30 BMW. |

Of course, I'll be wearing ear protection! But the ground will shake and the
air will burn with arcid fumes. The earth's rotation will be altered for about
4 seconds! It's got to be a rush! |
