50 Things to do before I die logo

1... Change my own oil using the lift I've just installed in my own shop
This goal is more about building my own automotive workshop with a lift than it is about changing my own oil. Changing oil is nothing special; I'm just getting tired of laying on my back on a cold garage floor to do it. Of course, a lift makes almost all automotive repairs and modifications much easier. You not only have access to all the necessary places you may need to stick you hands or your head, but it's also a great back saver.
Please see my site dedicated to building that ultimate automotive workshop at www.AutoWorkshop.info.

2... Drive as much of the original Route 66 as possible
The "Mother Road", the stuff of legend, novel, and song. Being a child of the pre-Interstate '50's, I can appreciate the way we Americans used to travel. We got in touch with the people, towns, sights, sounds, and smells along the way. Sure, the Interstate is a great way to "make time", but travelling used to be more than that. I want to travel the road and gaze out upon the countryside as though it were 50 years ago.

3... Attend a Bondurant or Skip Barber school
Who wouldn't want to attend a professional driving school? Especially if your a gear head like myself.
There are lots of professional driving schools out there, but the Barber and Bondurant schools are considered the best.

4... Drive in the SCCA Solo National Championships
Solo racing has been called "the most exciting 60 seconds in all motorsports". And the SCCA Solo Nationals is the largest motorsports event in the world. Just witnessing this many competition cars in one place is a sight to behold. The event is so big, it takes four days to complete!
Since my introduction to the sport in 1972, I've been hooked. While I've never made it to that "national level driver" status, I've had lots of fun along the way trying to get there.

Completed, Sept. 1997, Sept. 2005

5... Drive the Autobahn in a Porsche
The ultimate road car for what many consider the ultimate road. I think part of that thinking comes from the belief that the Autobahn has no speed limit. Actually, only about half has unlimited speed.
I've owned several Porsches, but driving a German car in it's homeland, and letting it stretch it's legs out, has got to be a thrill!
